What to expect at Phoenix church revival event

PHOENIX (AP) A revival event for followers of a Phoenix church has been cancelled amid a nationwide protest.

The First Church of Christ in the Desert has scheduled the event for Oct. 19, a time when some churches are closed to the public and congregations are usually on a weekend or holiday.

The congregation’s website says they were approached by the Arizona Department of Public Safety after a man showed up with a gun and threatened a woman and children in their congregation Sunday afternoon.

The suspect, who police identified as 29-year-old Eric Russell, was arrested after the shooting, and his mother and brother are expected to be released later Sunday afternoon, according to a police statement.
